    Description

The 2017 Krugerrand (PU) premium uncirculated 1oz .999 fine silver coin is the first ever silver Krugerrand to be minted by the South Africa Mint and was released to mark the 50th anniversary of the Krugerrand coin. The coin bears the same iconic gold coin design portrait of Paul Kruger president of the old South African Republic, on the obverse and the Springbok Antelope on the reverse along with the year of minting and weight. A small privy stamp of the number 50 is also shown in a circle above the Antelope. Each coin weighs 31.1g of .999% fine silver. Minted by the South African Mint. Finished to premium uncirculated (PU) standard. Dimensions: Diameter: 38.7mm. Condition: New. Supplied in a clear plastic coin capsule or wallet with a certificate of authenticity card (CoA). Other Information: These coins are limited to 1,000,000 so yes, each really is one in a million! 2017 is the first year the South Africa Mint has released a premium uncirculated (PU) .999 fine silver Krugerrand coin. First minted in 1967 by the South Africa Mint, the name ‘Krugerrand’ comes from the name of the president at the time Paul Kruger and the unit of currency of South Africa the ‘Rand’. Some countries banned the importing of Krugerrands during the 70’s and 80’s due to the association with the apartheid government but is now one of the most recognised gold coins among collectors and investors alike. Don’t confuse this fine silver premium (PU) grade coin with the standard bullion (BU) coin as this is a higher quality coin and was a single release to mark the 50th anniversary of the Krugerrand and the difference between the (BU) and (PU) is quite noticeable. After it’s conception at the end of the 60’s, the Krugerrand was being minted at a rate of approximately 40,000 units per year, this continued to grow until 1978 when a record breaking 6 million coins were produced.
